We have our next General Coalition Meeting on Tuesday, October 23rd from 6:00 to 8:00pm at the Urban Justice Center (123 William St), where we will, via give and take discussion and decision making, put the flesh on the bone of our upcoming plans and activities. These meetings are open to the public, and we welcome all people who want to participate and bring their ideas to the table. Our meetings are attended by a large, diverse group of people representing a cross section of our city – many ages, colors, races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender identities – everyone sharing a commitment to the need for sweeping NYPD reforms. Food, as always, will be provided and will be delicious.
We will have our Direct Action Meeting on Thursday, October 25th at 6pm to plan outdoor street actions aimed at pressing the city’s district attorneys to reject the false arrests and unwarranted summonses that police officers bring to the courts.
We have two upcoming petition drives on Sunday, October 28th and Sunday, November 18th. We will dispatch PROP representatives throughout the city to talk to people on the streets, educate them about the issue and our effort, film their testimonials about bad police encounters, and collect their signatures on the PROP petition.
Additionally, on December 3rd, we will host a reprise of our successful “Behind the Blue Wall of Silence” event from earlier this year. This event will take place at the Schomburg Center on 515 Malcolm X Boulevard; more details will be provided as the date approaches.
