Breaking Broken-Windows | Saturday, December 20, 2014
Community Town Hall & Open Mic on Saturday, Dec. 20th from 4-6 PM at the Church of St. Luke & St. Matthew at 520 Clinton Ave. in the Clinton Hill section of Brooklyn. Co-sponsored by PROP, this event aims to instruct & mobilize people on the issue & to directly involve the people most affected by harsh & biased ‘broken windows’ policing.
Current events, including that thousands of people in NYC & across the country have taken to the streets to protest abusive & racist policing, have brought us to the point where the bulls-eye target is being painted on the back of ‘broken windows’ policing.
It’s up to us & the collective police reform movement to maintain & heighten the energy now on display & to keep the spotlight & pressure on political leaders like de Blasio so that they will make the sweeping changes needed in law enforcement policy & practice.
“It’s bad practice, it’s racist practice, it’s fucking immoral practice, and it’s been going on in New York City for decades,” Gangi remarked. “So we’re putting the pressure on the powers that be, in particular on Mayor de Blasio, to change it.”
